Swine Flu In Barbados?

This item was filled under [ Health ]

Yesterday, an alert that a crew member of a ship in the Bridgetown Harbour might have the H1N1 virus, resulted in screening of all those on board from health officials, which slowed the activity at the port. However, the port was not closed.

Many workers fled the Port as word circulated but the  management team assured the other s of their safety.

The female passenger, whose name and nationality were not disclosed, was apparently under quarentine before the ship even reached Barbados, contrary to some reports.

Once the health assessment was completed, passengers and crew started flowing out of the port to enjoy their holiday to the island. Some Barbadians were among those who came off the ship, but they and others have been given health alert cards for their follow up care.

The ship, Carnival Victory was carrying over 3 000 passengers including a number of Barbadians who had gone on the weekly cruise. It has already left on its journey around the Caribbean with the affected crew member on board.
