No-Confidence Motion Reviewed
Although this is late, we realise that many people didn’t follow the no-confidence motion brought by the Opposition Barbados Labour Party against Prime Minister David Thompson. Therefore, we decided to do a review of the proceedings for the benefit of those who didn’t follow.
Barbados Underground has given you an excellent gem:
In case you missed the 12 hour no-confidence motion brought by Leader of the Opposition Mia Mottley against the Minister of Finance David Thompson, click on the 4-audio links below which averages 3 hours per link! – Parts 1 – 2 – 3 – 4
You can’t ask for anything better than that. The whole motion has been made available by Barbados Underground.
Also, for further review, the Cheese-on-bread blog also has something to say:
Although I recognise that she was exercising her right as Opposition Leader, I’m not sure what Mia Mottley hoped to prove. The ruling Dempocratic Labour Party (DLP) has only been in office for roughly 14 months, too early for the electorate to think about ousting them.
You can also have a look at what the Daily Nation had to say:
Blasting Mottley’s stance, Thompson said no other Opposition side in the region, or indeed the world, had taken the kind of fight against its government which the Barbados Labour Party had.
“There’s no other country in the Caribbean where the opposition has behaved so immaturely, jostling for position…I know of no other country in the world where people are not seeking to bind together as one,” he stated.
As you all know, the no-confidence motion was defeated, but for those of you who didn’t hear the debate, and wish some insight into what went down, we hope these links and quotes help.
